🌿 Roman Szmal Sale and Swatches

🌿 Roman Szmal is a real person. He's a chemist from Poland, and his small company makes some of the most compelling watercolors in the world. They're on sale until October 4, 2024 at Jackson's Art.

I'm a big fan of this line because they offer full pans which are easier on my brushes.

That dynamic purple in the cover photo is called Mineral Violet, and it's a gorgeous, separating combination of PB29 and PV19. It's lightfast and transparent enough for me to use in ink and wash compositions.

Here are all of the other Roman Szmal colors I've collected:

Sorry for the typos on Indigo!

My Top 7 Roman Szmal colors include the following:

Cherry Quinacridone Red - PR209 - Fantabulous for painting watermelons and summer slushies. Cue Harry Styles singing "Watermelon Sugar."

Sap Green - PG7 - A bold, bright lively green ideal for spring buds and leaves with sunshine peeking through them.

Aquarius Green - PY150 / PBR25 / PB29 - Another curiously separating mix reminiscent of Schmincke Horadam's Super Granulating Shire Green.

Mineral Violet - PB29 / PV19 - Excellent for painting spring flowers; glows with a special bounce as the colors move on the page.

Perylene Violet - PV29 - Makes gorgeous autumn hydrangeas with a wine hue.

Roman Szmal Transparent Oxide Brown - PR101 - One of my favorite browns of all time; ideal for painting chestnut horses.

Hematite Violet Shade - PR102 (Earth pigment) - This sounds ridiculous, but this granulating color makes painting realistic bruises easy. Especially handy for Halloween and zombie walk illustrations.

Now is a great time to support this small business, as the Roman Szmal sale at Jackson's Art will last until October 4, 2024. Jackson's now ships many items from Maine, so shipping throughout the United States is faster and more economical.

🌿  Pro Tip

While you're shopping for art supplies at Jackson's, be sure to take advantage of their samples. There are lots of options including watercolor dot cards and paper swatches. Just search "sample" in the storefront. <-- or click here!
