🌿 I've turned a number of plain notebooks into watercolor journals. The trick is to find one with substantial paper, just the right coating, and not too much buckling.
Emshoi makes an excellent choice if you'd like to paint on pages with dot grid, square grid, or 7mm ruled lines.
These notebooks take my technical drawing pens and watercolors beautifully with no bleedthrough and are extremely economical compared to similar 120gsm offerings from Archer & Olive and Leuchtturm1917.
🌿 pros
- available with Prime shipping at Amazon
- 256 numbered pages
- 120gsm paper, very slight tooth, only Sharpies bleed through
- ecru color paper (just slightly ivory rather than bright white)
- hard cover
- sewn binding
- choice of 12 pretty cover colors
- elastic closure, pen loop, back pocket, and two color-coordinated bookmarks
🌿 cons
- paper is not FSC Certified
I tested gel pens, rollerball pens, fountain pens, technical drawing pens, pigment and dye based markers, highlighters, and watercolors (including scrubbing and layering).
Be well,
Ann
