When I started working in this journaling Bible, I selected a handful of colors and decided to stick with them for every verse. I really like the consistency as I flip through the pages! They coordinate with the Bible itself and with the Filofax cover I'm using. 

Very few of my pencils, pens, markers, or highlighters work without bleedthrough on this paper. I tested so many! However, I found that as long as I use a pencil board behind (even just a piece of cardstock), I can get away with PrismaColor Premier colored pencils and Marvy LePen pens.
